O.A.R. Background Information
OAR (short for Of a Revolution) began as a small, roots-rock outfit and has progressed into a legitimate rock band with a massive campus following thanks to online distribution. The group came together in 1996 in Rockville, Md. The group all moved to Columbus, Ohio, to attend Ohio State University after graduation Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School. The band found word-of-mouth success from songs such as "That Was a Crazy Game of Poker," "City on Down" and "Night Shift." They regularly performed at every college party they could get their hands on it paid off with the internet revolution in campuses across the country - their third album "Risen" debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard Top Internet Sales chart. In recent years, OAR has expanded past college campuses and onto the mainstream. They performed the theme song for the ABC hit "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," and have been featured on individual episodes of the television show. Their popularity was solidified after they sold out New York Citys Madison Square Garden," drawing in about 18,000 fans. They also found success on mainstream radio and TV - "Love and Memories" was a hit on the airwaves and videos for "Love and Memories" and "Lay Down" were popular on VH1 and MTV. OAR has also found success in the sports world - they performed that Major League Baseball All Star Game in Pittsburgh in 2006, and their songs "Wonderful Day" and "One Shot" were used during March Madness 2007 and the College World Series. The band is known for touring with the usual jam band suspects, including Dave Matthews Band, Gomez and Matt Nathanson. In the summer of 2008, the rockers travelled to a number of stops in support of their last release, "All Sides." They also performed at Bonnaroo and at the Gorge with the Dave Matthews Band.
