Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds might be a surprisingly long name, but what isn't surprising about this relatively new band is the success they have received so far. The band is comprised of former Oasis lead singer Noel Gallagher as well as former Oasis pianist Mike Rowe, The Zutons bassist Russell Pritchard, The Lemon Trees drummer Jeremy Stacey and guitarist Tim Smith. With all that musical talent bundled into one group, they produced a self-titled album just one year after forming.
The album has been a smashing success, especially in the United Kingdom where the album reached No. 1 on the charts and went double Platinum since its release in October 2011. Now, the band is hitting to road in support of their debut album.
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds tour dates bring the band to the U.S. in late March before heading off again in early April, with stops at the Lifestyles Communities Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio, on March 29 and the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, Mich., on March 31.
Additional Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds tickets are available for April 1 at Chicago's Riviera Theatre, April 3 at Milwaukee's Pabst Theater and the Egyptian Room at Old National Centre in Indianapolis on April 4. The last U.S. concert will be April 6 at The Tabernacle in Atlanta.
Frontman and band moniker Noel Gallagher spent nearly 20 years as the lead songwriter and singer for Oasis with his younger brother Liam Gallagher. After a fight with his brother in late August 2009 (the last of many years of fighting!), Noel left the band and began to focus on his solo work.
Five months later, Noel Gallagher had his first solo act where he played acoustic sets of Oasis songs. In August 2010, Noel re-entered the studio, but dismissed any claims that he had started on a solo album in February 2011. In October of the same year, Noel Gallagher released a self-titled collaboration album with the band Amorphous Androgynous. As to the name, Noel Gallagher admits that it came from the song "High Flying Bird" by Jefferson Airplane. He has also confirmed that he will be working with the same band for his second studio album as well.
The first album released several major hits including "The Death of You and Me," "AKA... What a Life!" and "If I Had a Gun..." Other charted songs include "The Good Rebel," "Let the Lord Shine a Light on Me," "Everybody's on the Run" and "Dream On."
