Nickelback

News and Information

Nickelback, the post-grunge band from Canada, is gearing up for their 2009 tour "Dark Horse," in support of their latest album of the same name.

The U.S. tour spans from late February to late April and includes Seether and Saving Abel supporting most of the dates.

"Shakin Hands," "I'd Come for You," and "Never Gonna Be Alone" all debuted from "Dark Horse" on the Canadian Hot 100, and the album was also certified Platinum just three weeks after its release.

Roadrunner Records originally announced that the first single from Nickelback's album was going to be "If Today Was Your Last Day", but the song was scrapped as the first single, and "Gotta Be Somebody" served as the lead single instead.

Nickelback's track record certainly speaks for itself ? the group has sold 27 million albums worldwide. Sine the 2001 breakthrough of "How You Remind Me," they have sent 13 singles onto various Billboard charts, while solidifying their foothold in the rock industry.

Nickelback Background Information

Canadian band Nickelback took the alternative rock industry by storm in 2001 with the hit single "How You Remind Me," and they have been churning out hit after hit with their radio-friendly, post-grunge sound.

The band, led by singer/guitarist Chad Kroeger, was made up Kroegers brother, Mike, on bass, Ryan Peake on guitar and Kroeger cousin Brandon on drums, who was replaced relatively shortly after inception by Ryan Vikedal. The first single, "Leader of Men" off the LP "The State" was their first taste of fame. Due to incessant touring (over 200 shows), the band made its way to traveling with rock acts such as Fuel, Creed and 3 Doors Down.

Commercial success in the U.S. came after the bands third album "Silver Side Up" was released. "How You Remind Me" was the first single off of the album, making them the second band ever to have the No.1 single in both Canada and the U.S. (the first was Guess Whos "American Woman").

Their fourth album was "The Long Road" in 2003, and the single "Someday" found its way to the top of the Billboard Charts. Around the release of the album, drummer Ryan Vikedal left the band and 3 Doors Down drummer Daniel Adair replaced him. In 2005, "All The Right Reasons" was released, which included three more massive hits, "Photograph," "Far Away" and "If Everyone Cared."

The bands eclectic sound has lent its stylings to many soundtracks as well, including Spider-Man, The Scorpion King, Daredevil, Charlies Angels: Full Throttle and The Punisher. The single "Hero" from Spider-Man was put out quite early in the bands career, prompting their fast rise to fame in the U.S.

Kroeger and Co. have won countless awards the past few years, such as three Billboard Music Awards, including Rock Album of the Year for "All the Right Reasons," an American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Album, eight Juno Awards, and they were nominated for four Grammy Awards.

While the band is clearly a commercial success, the members also stay very true to their humble beginnings, which is evident by all of the touring that they still do. While the size of the venues have increased exponentially, they still have fan-oriented shows, often meshing a more acoustic sound with their normally hard-rock songs while on the road, but still sticking with their hard-rock roots.
