Neil Diamond is touring this season, heading out in mid-July and staying on the road through the fall.
Diamond is one of the most enduring pop musicians of all time, having sold over 115 million copies and placing him just behind Elton John and Barbra Streisand on the list of the most successful adult contemporary artists in Billboard history. While Diamond has slowed in recording, he connects with fans throughout the world on major tours almost annually.
Diamond grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and began performing while in high school. He started his music career primarily as a writer, finding success with hits such as "Im a Believer" and "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You," by The Monkeys.
The singers solo success came with "Solitary Man" in 1966. He followed it up shortly thereafter with hits such as "Cherry, Cherry" and "Kentucky Woman." In 1970, Diamond moved to MCA Records, where he put out his trademark tunes - "Sweet Caroline" and "Cracklin Rosie." Diamond began touring regularly, developing a following outside of his recordings.
Diamond continued releasing hits into the 1980s, including "Love on the Rocks," "Hello Again," "America" and "Heartlight." By the 1990s, Diamond became more of a cult star, including performances for Quentin Tarantinos "Pulp Fiction." He was recognized in the 1991 hit with the quote, "There are two types of people in the world: those who like Neil Diamond and those who dont." The singer is also becoming involved with satellite radio - on May 2, 2008, he started Neil Diamond Radio on Sirius Satellite Radio.
Most recently, Diamond released "Home Before Dark" on May 6, 2008. He spent most of the winter and spring touring in Europe, and will perform at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK as well.
In the U.S., Diamond plans to hit 27 cities between July 19th and October 30th.
