The eclectic sound of Modest Mouse has created a massive cult following for the group, spawned by some hit singles that play off their alt-rock inclination.
The group was formed by Isaac Brock in 1993, and while the lineup has changed over the years, bassist Eric Judy and drummer Jeremiah Green have been at the backbone of the group.
The debut album for the band, "This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Talk About,” was released in 1996. The following year they released "The Lonesome Crowded West,” which is considered by many to be a beginning album of indie rock in the 1990s. The toured relentlessly behind the effort, developing a massive cult following.
After taking advantage of the popularity of their breakthrough album, they released "The Moon & Antarctica” in 2000. The album was successful on alternative radio, and was very popular o alternative stations. The groups commercial breakthrough was "Good News for People Who Love Bad News,” which included the massive hits "Float On” and "Ocean Breathes Salty.”
The group is known for electric touring performances. In 2002, they traveled with the eclectic group Cake, De La Soul, The Flaming Lips, Kinky and The Hackensaw Boys on the Unlimited Sunshine Tour.
Most recently, the band released "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank,” which has also been getting heavy airplay on alternative stations.
