Mark Knopfler News and Information

Mark Knopfler is gearing up for a 2010 worldwide tour in support of his "Get Lucky" album.

The American segment of the "Get Lucky" tour kicks off on April 8, 2010, in Seattle and ends on May 9, 2010, in Albany. From there, Knopfler will be headed to Dublin, Ireland on May 19,
and concludes the tour in Gredos, Spain on July 31.

Knopfler's latest album, "Get Lucky," was released in September 2009 with the help of bandmate Guy Fletcher.

Knopfler began his musical career when he teamed up with his younger brother, David Knopfler, and members John Illsley and Pick Withers in 1977. Their group, The Dire Straits, lasted until 1995. During that time period, the band released six albums: "Dire Straits" in 1978; Communiqué in 1979; Making Movies in 1980; Love over Gold in 1982; Brothers in Arms in 1985; and On Every Street in 1991.

In 1995, the band dissolved and one year later, Mark Knopfler began his solo career by releasing his first album, "Golden Heart. "

Knopfler has been active ever since, and usually releases a new album every one to two years. When he's not busy writing and producing everything for his albums, he's busy touring and doing promotional stunts. For a 60-year-old man, he sure stays busy!

His second solo album, "Sailing to Philadelphia," was released in 2000. It was followed by "The Ragpicker's Dream" in 2002; "Shangri-La" in 2004; "One Take Radio Sessions" in 2005; "The Trawlerman's Song EP" in 2005; "The Best of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler: Private Investigations" in 2005; "Kill to Get Crimson" in 2007; and "Get Lucky" in 2009.

There's apparently no hard feelings between the former Dire Straits bandmates, as many of his albums feature keyboardist Guy Fletcher and Danny Cummings. In 2008, former bandmate John Illsley suggested that Dire Straits reform, but Mark Knopfler denied saying the band "just got too big."
