Marilyn Manson News and Information
Posted 6/18/2009
Marilyn Manson gained fame as a shock rocker for the past 12 years, propelling his "Antichrist Superstar” image as the poster child for hard rock and theatrics.

Manson grew up in Ohio, and developed an interest in music while writing about a number of bands while pursuing a journalism degree at a local community college. Acts that inspired him included Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult.

The artist first performed with the bands Satan on Fire and Mrs. Scabtree, and he then formed went solo with a backing band 1989. Reznor took note of the up-and-coming artist and produced the debut album from Manson, "Portrait of an American Family,” released in 1994. The album included the hit single "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” which really put Manson on the map.

"Smells Like Children” was released in 1995 and "Antichrist Superstar” followed the next year. Through 2000, the band steadily released studio material. In 2003, 2004 and 2007 Manson released "The Golden Age of Grotesque,” "Lest We Forget” and "Eat Me, Drink Me,” respectively.

Throughout his career, three of his releases were certified Platinum, selling over 1 million copies, and three more were certified Gold, selling over 100,000 copies.

As of late, Manson has focused on other forms of art - he acted in the 1997 film "Lost Highway” and is now working on his directorial debut, "Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll.”
