Mariah Carey News and Information

Set to perform on December 31st in Madison Square Garden, Mariah Carey will ring in what promises to be another year of success, starting off with a 16-date tour through the end of February with fellow R&B crooner Ne-Yo.
With no less than 11 No 1 U.S. hits since her debut on MTV in 1990, Mariah Carey has surpassed industry expectations and shows no signs of slowing down. Accused of milking the same formula that made Whitney Houston famous, Carey has managed to recreate her career many times over.
New York City born in 1970, Carey went from singing back ups to being signed by Sony in 1988. Sony's president, Tommy Mottola, seemed the prime reason for Carey's early successes: "Vision of Love" and "Emotions" in 1991, however, her five-octave vocal range speaks for itself.
The multi-talented singer takes an active role in producing, co-writing and arranging most of her material and directing some of her music videos. In 2001 she acted in her first film "Glitter" and produced the soundtrack. VH1's recent "Diva" special put her on the map with the likes of legends Aretha Franklin and Carole King.
The media has feasted on her 'femme fatal' dramas while Carey's image has become ever more mysterious and beautiful. Her post-divorce fashion choices, as well as her brilliant teaming action with artists (Puff Daddy and others), projects independence the likes of which Svengali ex-husband, Tommy Mottola, can make no claims on.
The unfortunate failure of her box office appeal ("Glitter" was a flop) gave rise to stories of her being suicidal. After checking into a hospital for 'exhaustion' she came out fighting, making a comeback, of sorts in 2002, with "Charmbracelet."
Mariah Carey is currently in the studio shooting her video for her next single "Angels Cry" with Ne-Yo. The soon to be hit single is taken from her previous album "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel." Director, and now husband, Nick Cannon praises the lean, no frills, seriously amazing product of "two of the worlds greatest songwriters" and says, "I hope the world is ready for this." Carey will tour with Ne-Yo in early 2010.
