This July, Mana is headlining a U.S. tour in support of their new studio album, Drama y Luz.
The tour runs through July 22 with two consecutive nights in Rosemont, Ill., with stops along the way in Duluth, Ga. (July 10), Fairfax (July 14), Newark (July 16) and Boston (July 17).
Drama y Luz, which translates to Drama and Light, is Mana's tenth studio album. It debuted in April 2011 and features the popular single "Lluvia al Corazan," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart.
In 1978, Mana was formed in the Mexican city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, by vocalist Jose Fernando "Fher" Olvera and a group of friends, including current member and bass guitarist Juan Calleros. The group originally called themselves The Green Hat Spies and spent time playing as a cover band. Later they would change their name to Sombrero Verde (Green Hat) and released two albums under the name: their self-titled, debut album in 1981 and their second album "A Tiempo de Rock" in 1983. After their second studio album, drummer Alex Gonzalez joined the band.
Unhappy with their lack of success, the band signed to Warner Music in 1990 and their first album under the new label landed them their first hit single and a tour throughout Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. In 1995, they were joined by guitarist Sergio Vallin.
Several successful records later, they released Suenos Liquidos (Liquid Dreams) in 1997. The album was a hit at home and in the U.S., and it ended up winning them their first Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album.
Since then, they have earned two more Grammy Awards, five Latin Grammy Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards-Latin America and more. Their most recent work was the April 2011 album, "Drama y Luz," which is the group's first new music in five years.
