LeAnn Rimes became famous at the tender age of 13, and just over ten years later has sold almost forty million albums, and holds the record as the youngest artist to win a Grammy Award.
Rimes was raised in Pearl, Mississippi, where she began singing by the age of two. She appeared on Star Search at eight years old in 1990, and by 11 she released "Everybodys Sweetheart" on an independent label.
The pint-size artist was known for her mature, Patsy Cline-esque voice as she released a series of independent albums and toured constantly to develop a following. By 1995, Rimes recorded a demo of "Blue," and the single and album of the same name was released in 1996 when Rimes was just 13 years old.
The album debuted at No.3 on the Billboard 200 album chart, and has sold over six million copies since. The up-and-comer banked in on her Cline comparison, and she was hailed as the second coming of the legendary artist. That year, Rimes took home a Grammy Award for "Best New Artist" and "Best Female Country Vocal Performance."
Rimes released her next album, "Unchained Melody: The Early Years" in 1997. The title track was a massive hit, and she followed the album up with "You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs." "How Do I Live" was a hit off of the album, and is known as one of her most popular tracks.
The singer offered up "Sittin on Top of the World" in 1998, and the following year she put out a cover album of songs by her inspirations such as Cline, Janis Joplin and Marty Robbins. In 2001, Rimes released "I Need You" which included the hit title track and "Cant Fight the Moonlight," which was featured in the film "Coyote Ugly." Around this time, Rimes seemed to be breaking into the pop world.
Just after turning 21, Rimes released "Greatest Hits," which eventually went Platinum. In 2005, the artist moved back to her country roots with 'This Woman," which was certified Platinum. Most recently, Rimes released "Family."
The country darling is traveling with Kenny Chesney on the Poets and Pirates Tour during the summer of 2008.
