Lady GaGa, who was born as Joanne Stefani Germanotta, adopted the name GaGa after Queen's song "Radio Ga Ga."
Her best known single from her first album, "The Fame," is called "Just Dance." "Just Dance" was released in April 2008, though it wasn't until October that it started receiving airtime in the U.S.
In early 2009, "Just Dance" became Lady Gaga's first No. 1 single. Her second single, "Poker Face," was released in September 2008, though it has only made it to No. 32 on the Billboard 100. "Just Dance" was nominated for a 2009 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording; however, she was beat out by Daft Punk's "Harder Better Faster Stronger."
In December 2008, BBC added GaGa to their Sound of 2009 longlist, which include 15 up and coming stars chosen by 130 of UK's top music critics. GaGa was the support act for Pussycat Dolls on their Europe/Oceania tour dates between January and May 2009.
