After graduating from high school, Kevin James spent three years at the State University of New York at Cortland majoring in sports management and playing on the football team. However, he realized that it wasn't what he wanted to do with his life, and he eventually moved back home and decided to join a community theater to have some fun.
He decided that he liked the reactions of the crowd during a comedic play that he performed in, and joined his brother, comedian Gary Valentine's, improv group. James favored stand-up and performed various gigs for nearly a decade before he was recognized on Star Search in 1983.
Around this time, he was also appearing on various talk shows, like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman.
James caught his big break in 1996 and landed a role on "Everybody Loves Raymond." In 1998, he landed the leading role for "The King of Queens,"where he spent the next 9 years.
In 2005, he moved to the big screen alongside Will Smith in the comedy "Hitch." From there, he acted in numerous other films, such as "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," "You Don't Mess with the Zohan," "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" and "Grown Ups."
