Kenny Rogers

News and Information
Kenny Rogers had a slow start in the music scene as a member of singing groups, but eventually made it to superstardom with massive hits of his own as a country star.

Rogers began his career with New Christy Minstrels and then First Edition, a group that charted the hits "Reuben James" and "Ruby Dont Take Your Love to Town." By the late '70s, he combined his country twang with his previous bands easily listening sounds to create a sound that would keep him on the top of the charts for decades to come.

After spending almost a decade with First Edition, Rogers was thought of as a washed-up act by the time he signed with United Artists in 1976. However, he found success on the Billboard Charts with singles such as "Love Lifted Me," "Runaway Girl" and "Lucille." After those hits, his album "The Gambler" was extremely successful, and then it got even better. In the last 70s, Rogers teamed up with fellow country singer Dottie West for a number of albums and tours. Together the duo released three hit albums and charted the hits "Ever Time Two Fools Collide" and "What Are We Doin In Love."

After parting musical ways with West (he remained close friends until her death in the mid- '90s), he worked with Lionel Ritchie to release the No.1 hit "Lady." Ritchie also helped Rogers with "I Dont Need You" and "Through the Years." He also worked with the Bee Gees on the hit "Islands in the Stream," which paired him with Dolly Parton. Rogers then worked with David Foster on the Bob Seger cover "Weve Got Tonight" with Sheena Easton.

In the early 90s, newly-emerging acts such as Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson that were influenced by Rogers began to steal the country spotlight, but he continued to release albums. Throughout the decade he charted hits with "Crazy in Love," "If You Want to Find Love" and "The Greatest" at the turn of the decade.

Rogers found himself back at No.1 for the 2000 single "Buy Me a Rose." In the past few years, he put out a best-of album, "42 Ultimate Hits" in 2004 and "Water & Bridges" in 2006.

Rogers is still known for his massive tours, as well as his charity work, TV specials, movies, photography and books.
