KEM Tour News and Bio

Kem's 2011 U.S. tour is in full swing from now through April 10 in support of his most recent studio album, "Intimacy: Album III." A handful of U.S. tour dates are left, including March 25 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit; March 30 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles; and April 14 at the Durham Performing Arts Center in North Carolina. Special guests El DeBarge and Ledisi will also be joining Kem on tour.
"Intimacy: Album III," Kem's third studio album, debuted in August 2010. It features the popular R&B songs "Why Would You Stay" and "Share My Life."
Kem Owens, better known as Kem, was raised in Detroit. After his graduation from high school, Kem found himself out on the streets and addicted to drugs and alcohol. He never knew where his next meal would come from or whether he would get a bed in the shelter at night.
Though Kem hasn't released any details about how he overcame his addictions, he admits he's a big believer in God and attributes his success to his newfound Christian faith.
After cleaning up his act, Kem worked as a wedding singer and waiter. Between his nominal income and credit card, Kem was able to write, produce and finance his debut album, "Kemistry."
After listening to the album, Kem was signed to Motown Records in 2001 and spent the next two years fine-tuning each song. In February 2003, "Kemistry" was released to the public and became an instant hit.
Kem spent the next two years touring and working on new material. In May 2005, he released his second studio album, "Album II," which was also a success. For "Album II," Kem teamed up with legend Stevie Wonder on harmonica for the song "You Might Win." Another hit was "I Can't Stop Loving You."
In 2005, Motown Records merged with Universal Music to create Universal Motown Records, where Kem still remains. Though it took another five years, Kem's third studio album, "Intimacy: Album III," was released in August 2010.
Like his other albums, "Intimacy" was self- produced by Kem and features collaborations with Maurissa Rose and Jill Scott.
