When a young girl from Texas won the first season of the reality competition "American Idol" in 2002 with her single "A Moment Like This," no one could have imagined the massive success that she was about to enjoy, or how popular the show would then become.

After a failed attempt in Hollywood before winning the talent competition, the pop star quietly made her way up the charts with her debut album "Thankful" in 2003, which featured the hit Grammy-Award nominated single "Miss Independent." In 2004 her sophomore effort, "Breakaway," found Clarkson taking over the reigns of her sound and her image, cultivating an edgier persona to separate her from her reality-show past and usher in a tone with a little more rock. The change paid off ? the album boasted five U.S. Top 10 singles and collected two Grammy Awards. "Breakaway," "Since U Been Gone," "Behind These Hazel Eyes," "Because of You" and "Walk Away" all got a massive amount of airplay, which made her "the most successful female artist in American Top 40 history," staying on the list for 111 weeks.

While her voice is constantly heard on the radio, there has been some unsettling news from the Clarkson camp as of late. Her new album, "My December," is set for a June 22, 2007 release, and the first single, "Never Again" was successful on the digital download charts. However, strife with her management and record label has led to the accompanying arena tour being cancelled, with the promise that it will be rescheduled for more intimate venues after the release of the collection.

Clarkson has told many media outlets that touring is her favorite part of the music industry because she gets to interact with her fans ? the intimate settings for her upcoming tour will be a perfect opportunity to get up-close and personal with the star.
