Keane News and Information
Posted 6/18/2009
Keane released their third studio album, "Perfect Symmetry", in October 2008. They are currently on tour between now and August, making their way through North and South America and Europe in support of this latest effort.

For the first time since their early musical beginnings, the band uses a guitar and a heavy reliance on synthesizers on their new release. This represents a departure for the band, formerly known as "the band with no guitars", whose signature style has thus far been piano-driven ballads and distortion effects.

Opening acts include Frankmusik (UK and Ireland Concerts), Mike Sierra (Mexico), Sexto Sentido (Colombia), Francisco Gonzales (Chile), No Lo Soporto and Banda de Turistas (Argentina), Fresno (São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Radiotape.

Keane formed in 1997 when band members were in school together in East Sussex, UK. Bandmates include: Tom Chaplin (vocals), Tim Rice-Oxley (piano), and Richard Hughes (drums).

Since Keane's debut album, "Hopes and Fears," hit shelves in May 2004, it has sold more than four million copies. Their first single, 'Everybody's Changing' sounded like a Number 1 chart hit before you even got to the chorus, and it immediately started turning heads.

Keane has been declared as "somewhere between a scuffed Coldplay and a frankly bewildered Beautiful South"... as "pure pop loveliness"... and as "indisputably mighty." What many people have noticed and what the rest of the world will hopefully discover for themselves is that despite the reference points, Keane's beguilingly beautiful music really isn't like anything else out there right now.

"Our songs have universal themes and are emotional," Tim notes. "People want emotion. But that seems like quite a rare thing these days. I don't think there are many bands who are making music which actually means anything. There's nothing to identify with."
