Kate Nash News and Background Information
Posted 9/22/2010
Kate Nash has already taken the U.K. by storm with her chart-topping debut album Made of Bricks (2006) and hits like "Foundations" and "Do-Wah-Doo." Now, she's gaining exposure and more popularity in the U.S. with her 2010 album My Best Friend is You.

Nash is headed stateside this fall for a North American tour in support of her sophomore studio album, My Best Friend Is You. Her 20-city tour kicks off on Oct. 27 at the San Diego House of Blues and runs through Nov. 22 at the Jose Cuervo Salon in Mexico City. Her last U.S. tour date is Nov. 20 at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, N.J.

Her tour also includes stops at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood on Oct. 27; Portland's Wonder Ballroom on Nov. 1; Philadelphia's Theatre of Living Arts on Nov. 17; and the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on Nov. 18.

My Best Friend is You was released in April 2010. Following its release, it jumped to No. 1 on the Billboard Digital Albums Chart, and No. 2 on the Billboard 200, Rock Albums Chart and Alternative Albums Chart.

Born and raised in London, Kate Nash always had interest in music as a child. Her interest first took her to the Sandbach School where she learned to play the piano, and later to the St. John Fisher School and St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, where she learned to play the guitar. She later went to the BRIT School for the Performing Arts and Technology where she studied theater. Ironically, Nash's interest turned to songwriting after breaking her foot and being rejected from another theatre school. Her mother, who is a nurse, cared for Nash and bought her an electric guitar. During her recovery, Nash spent much of the time songwriting.

With a healed foot and a new disposition, Nash booked a gig at a local bar to showcase her work. After several performances, Nash posted the recordings on her Myspace page and found a manager.

In February 2007, she released a debut single, Caroline's a Victim/Birds, through Moshi Moshi Records, and in April 2007 she was signed to Fiction Records.

Her first studio album, Made of Bricks, was released in August 2007. The album did well on the Billboard charts, rising to No. 2 on the Tastemaker Albums chart and No. 3 on the Rock Albums chart. With the popular songs "Foundations," "Mouthwash" and "Pumpkin Soup," Nash hit up several music festivals, including Glastonbury and T in the Park.

In 2008, she won the BRIT Award for British Female Solo Artist, and received nominations for British Breakthrough Act and British Single Shortlist (for "Foundations"). Following her Made of Bricks tour, Nash spent 2009 working on material for her next album.

My Best Friend is You was released in April 2010, just in time for Nash to tour with the newly revived Lilith Fair. Her second album contains hits like "Do-Wah-Doo," "Kiss That Grrrl" and "Later On." In the future, Nash has been contracted for at least two more albums and hopes to release a double-disc album in 2011.
