The mother-daughter duo of Naomi and Wynonna, better known as The Judds, have reunited for The Judds: The Last Encore Tour later this fall. The Judds: The Last Encore setlist includes songs from their unnamed, upcoming 2010 album, as well as No. 1 hits like "Change of Heart," "Give a Little Love," "I Know Where I'm Going," "Love Is Alive" and "Maybe Your Baby's Got the Blues."
The 17-city U.S. tour kicks off on Nov. 26 in Green Bay, Wis., and runs through Dec. 19 in Phoenix, Ariz. Other stops included in the predominantly Midwest/West Coast tour includes Dec. 2 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus; Dec. 3 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville; Dec. 5 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa; Dec. 7 at the World Arena in Colorado Springs; Dec. 11 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland; Dec. 15 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles; and Dec. 18 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Until Brooks and Dunn hit the music scene in the 1990s, mother Naomi and daughter Wynonna Judd were the most commercially successful country band in the history of country music.
In 1983, Naomi, 37, and Wynonna, 19, formed The Judds and signed with Curb Records. They released their debut studio album, Wynonna & Naomi, later that year. "Had a Dream (For the Heart)" was the album's first single to make it on the Billboard Country charts at No. 17. Later, several of the songs from their debut album would be re-issued on other albums, including their second release Why Not Me.
Why Not Me helped cement the duo's success, with three No. 1 hits: "Why Not Me," "Girls Night Out" and "Love Is Alive." The Judds received their first Grammy Award for the song "Mama He's Crazy" (from their debut album) for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. They also won in the same category for "Why Not Me" in 1986.
Over a seven year span, The Judds released an outstanding six studio albums, including 1985's Rockin' with the Rhythm, 1987's Heartland, 1989's River of Time and 1990's Love Can Build a Bridge.
Between 1983 and 1991, The Judds released 23 hit singles, 14 of which made it to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. They've also released 12 compilation albums, two Christmas albums and three live albums.
The Judds were named the Top Vocal Duo from 1984-1990 by the Academy of Country Music, and have numerous awards from the Country Music Association and the Grammy Awards. In 1991, Naomi had to retire from the music business after she was diagnosed with hepatitis C. Since then, Wynonna has embarked on a successful solo career.
The Judds are scheduled to release their first album in over a decade in the fall of 2010. Though the duo hasn't recorded as The Judds since 1990, they are credited with New Day Dawning (2000), since Naomi contributed to the album.
They have reunited several times since Naomi's diagnosis, including a 1998 tour, as well as performances in 2008 and 2009.
