Joss Stone has matured before her fans eyes, coming onto the scene as a young, soulful artist and blossoming into a mature artist.

Stone was born in Kent, and grew up in Decon. She dropped out of high school due to dyslexia, and turned her interests to music. She has said of her genre of choice, soul: "I kind of clicked into soul music more than anything else because of the vocals. Youve got to have good vocals to sing soul music and I always liked it ever since I was little."

The singer got her start in 2002 with S-Curve Records after an audition in New York City. Her debut album, "The Soul Sessions," followed the next year and included the singles "Fell in Love with a Boy" and "Super Duper Love." Both songs were covers - the first came from The White Stripes 2001 single "Fell in Love with a Girl" and the latter was from Sugar Billy in 1974. While the album did well commercially, it was also critically acclaimed.

"Mind, Body & Soul" was the next album from the then up-and-coming soul singer. It was even more successful than her debut. Hits from the album included "You Had Me," "Spoiled," "Right to be Wrong" and "Dont Cha Wanna Ride." With this album she seemed to be appealing to the R&B sector of the American charts, and continued to do so with her following release, 2007s "Introducing Joss Stone." The album was produced by Raphael Saadiq and included appearances from Common and Lauryn Hill. The album became the highest debut for any British artist on the Billboard Charts, making it to No.2 on its first week with sales of 118,000 copies. "Tell Me 'Bout It" was the albums first single, and 'Tell Me What Were Gonna Do Now" was also very popular.

Stone has been known as a sort of hippy, wearing bright colors - Gap clothing store banked on this image, making her its spokesperson in 2005 for a number of musical commercials. The singer has also shown interest in issues abroad, including a benefit concert for Sudans Darfur region, Band Aid 20.

For her young age, Stone has had a number of incredible performances with iconic soul musicians. In 2005, she performed "Papas Got a Brand New Bag" with funk legend James Brown, she performed with Stevie Wonder, India.Arie and John Legend for the Super Bowl XL pre-game show, and performed a medley of hits by Sly Stone from Sly and the Family Stone for the years Grammy awards.
