In a year when it seems like teen stars are falling from grace left and right, Jordin Sparks is touring this summer to bring her wholesome brand of pop to fans everywhere with fellow youngster Jesse McCartney.
Sparks won the sixth season of American Idol in 2007 and has found success with her self-titled debut. While on the show and after her victory, she made her life choices quite clear, including posing on the cover of the Evangelical Christian magazine "World."
Sparks grew up in New Jersey and Arizona - she traveled as the daughter of NFL defensive back Phillippi Sparks. She was set on singing at an early age and won second place in the 2006 Drug Free AZ Superstar Search, as well as the Phoenix Torrid search for the "Next Plus Size Model."
Sparks worked through the season with a number of hit performances, including Pat Benetars "Heart Breaker," Gloria Estefans "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You," Bee Gees "To Love Somebody" and "Fighter," originally by Christina Aguilera. She beat Blake Lewis in the Finale, performing "This is My Now."
Sparks released her self-titled debut after being signed to 19 Records to a generally favorable response from critics. The first single, "Tattoo," was released in August of 2007 and was a Top 10 single.
In an unexpected move, the pop stars website had fans vote on what her next single should be. "No Air," a duet with Chris Brown, was released and was a massive success. This album was the only Idol release that found worldwide acclaim - it sold seven million copies across the globe.
Her popularity continues to increase - she will duet with Timbaland, a premier hip hop producer, on his forthcoming release "Shock Value 2," and is now the spokesperson for Mark By Avon.
