News and Information

After releasing a variety of albums in a few short years, Mayer is ready to head out on the road again this summer to support his first live recording.

Mayer re-released his latest studio effort, "Continuum" in the fall of 2007 with six additional live tracks from his 2007 tour. He also released "Say" off of "The Bucket List" soundtrack.

Mayers most recent tour exploit was tropical in nature - he hosted a three-day Caribbean cruise ship called "The Mayercraft Carrier." The tour was a success, and another tour is scheduled for 2009.

On July 1st, 2008, Mayer will release his first live recording, "Where the Light Is," directed by Danny Flinch. The film features Mayer on an acoustic set, a trip set and a band set. The collection will be available on 2 CDs, one DVD or Blu-Ray Disc.

John Mayer Background Information

John Mayer exploded onto the music scene with his pop-oriented easy listening earlier this decade, but has since moved towards the blues and has retained immense success, with critics and fans alike.

Mayer grew up in Connecticut and refined his guitar and writing skills at the Berklee College of Music for a short time before dropping out. Interestingly, Mayer grew up as a clarinet player and was inspired to pick up the guitar thanks to Marty McFlys performance in the film "Back to the Future.? He then found the legendary blues artist Stevie Ray Vaughan, and a love affair with blues soon was created, showcasing his talent for in bars in his area throughout high school. When he was sent to the hospital with a cardiac arrhythmia in shortly after beginning to perform, he started his foray into song writing.

After dropping out of Berklee, Mayer moved to Atlanta, Ga., with friend Clay Cook as the LoFi Masters. When Mayer decided to pursue more pop stylings, the duo split and Mayer went out on his own. The singers first release was the independent EP "Inside Wants Out,? which included the extremely popular first single "No Such Thing.? After a performance at the South by Southwest Music Festival in March of 2000, Mayer was signed to Aware Records and released the internet-only "Room for Squares,? which was eventually picked up by Columbia Records and released to the masses. The album was chocked full of "acoustic sensitive? songs full of meaningful lyrics on love and loss.

The album created a number of hits, including a re-released version of "No Such Thing,? "Your Body is a Wonderland? and "Why Georgia.? The critics came calling, too - in 2003, "Your Body is a Wonderland? won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

After releasing a live album and DVD, "Any Given Thursday,? Mayer put out his next studio release, "Heavier Things.? The album received favorable reviews from many important publications, including Rolling Stone, All Music Guide and Blender. The first single "Daughters? took home Song of the Year at the 2005 Grammy Awards, and the album was a commercial success.

After releasing another live album, Mayer moved on to experiment with artists from different genres. He appeared with rappers Kanye West and Common on "Go!? which brought praise from other rappers such as Nelly and Jay-Z. Mayer then turned to blues, including performances with B.B. King, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton - he recorded with all three, plus jazz artist John Scofield.

In 2005, Mayer formed the John Mayer trio with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan. The group released "Try!? that same year and opened for The Rolling Stones on a sold-out club tour. The group is currently working on a new album after taking a break in 2006.

In 2006 Mayer released "Continuum,? which he claims is a fusion of the pop music that brought him to the top of the charts and the blues that are in his heart. The first single from the album was "Waiting on the World to Change,? which was a massive hit and won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Song with Vocal and the album won Best Pop Album. The critical praise has continued to come in droves - Mayer made an amazing cover of Rolling Stone in February of 2007 with John Frusciante and Derek Trucks, named as one of the "New Guitar Gods.?
