Joe Satriani is kicking off a 2-month North American tour this December in support of his latest release, Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards. The tour kicks off on Dec. 1 at Center Stage in Atlanta and runs through January 23 at the Metropolitan Theatre in Mexico City. The last U.S. tour date is scheduled for Jan. 20 at the House of Blues in Houston.

Along the way, he also has performances at the Procter and Gamble Hall in Cincinnati on Dec. 7; the Best Buy Theater in New York City in Dec. 13-14; the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, Md., and more.

Satriani's fourteenth studio album, Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards, debuted on Oct. 5, 2010. It features 11 new songs, including the popular single "Light Years Away."

Though Joe Satriani has been a successful musician for more than 20 years, it's impossible to tie his success to any one band. Though he's been the lead guitarist for Mick Jagger and Deep Purple, he has also achieved considerable success on his own.

As a teenager in the 70s, Satriani was deeply affected by the death of Jimi Hendrix and decided to begin taking guitar lessons. After just four years, Satriani moved to California from his home in New York to pursue his musical career.

Once in California, Satriani began teaching his guitar skills to others. Some of Satriani's students who have risen to fame include Metallica's Kirk Hammett, Counting Crows' David Bryson, Third Eye Blind's Kevin Cadogan and more.

In addition to teaching, Satriani also began playing in a San Francisco-based band called the Squares, followed by the Greg Kihn Band. During this time, he also released his first solo studio albums: Not of This Earth (1986) and Surfing with the Alien (1987).

In the 90s, Satriani continued releasing albums and also joined up with Deep Purple for a stint, though when he was offered a permanent position with the band, he declined.

One of the things that Santiari has been ongoing with since the 90s is G3, an annual concert tour of three instrumental rock guitarists. The original G3 concert was held in 1996 and featured Satriani, Steve Vai and Eric Johnson. Since then, some of the G3 performers have also included Tony MacAlphine, Johnny Hiland, Steve Lukather and Steve Morse.

Since 2000, Satriani has continued to steadily release albums, including 2010's Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards.
