Joe Jackson is hitting the road this spring. He plans on spending April in the East and May in the West in support of his most recent release, "Rain."
Jackson is a British artist who found success with a number of hits in the late '70s and early '80s as a new wave artist in the same vein as Elvis Costello and Graham Parker.
Jackson began his musical career when he picked up the violin but shortly after switched to piano. He was schooled as a traditional composer, but eventually moved towards pop and rock. He spent some time on the cabaret circuit to support himself, and found success with his debut album "Look Sharp!" in 1979 followed quickly by "Im the Man" that same year and "Beat Crazy" in 1980.
Jackson found particular success with his 1982 album "Night and Day," which paid homage to Cole Porters music. It included his highest-charting single, "Steppin Out". He turned his style more towards jazz standards for the album "Body and Soul" in 1984, which included the hits single "You Cant Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want)."
The artist released a total of 24 albums between 1979 and 2008, with more surely on the way. Over his career he has found success with the hit singles "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" "Breaking Us in Two," "Happy Ending" and "Memphis."
Most recently Jackson released "Rain," his first album since "Afterlife" in 2004. The album includes ten original compositions by Jackson with Graham Maby on bass and David Houghton on drums.
Jackson has also explored other artistic venues - he wrote "A Cure for Gravity" in 1999, a book about music combined
Jackson is traveling to a number of intimate venues this spring, including theaters and playhouses.
