Jerry Seinfeld is the ultimate comedian of his generation - he has achieved the heights of fame that most of his peers can only dream of, including an iconic sitcom.

Seinfeld grew up in New York where he developed his knack for comedy during college and started out with small TV bits. In 1981, his big break came with an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, which led to regular gigs on Late Night with David Letterman and The Merv Griffin Show.

After several years building a following, the comedian created The Seinfeld Chronicles with Larry David in 1989 for NBC. The show was eventually shortened to Seinfeld and quickly became the most popular sitcom on TV - it remained a television force through the end of the '90s and it still very popular in syndication. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards and Jason Alexander starred with Seinfeld. The comedy created some of the greatest pop cultural references of it's time, including "Yada Yada," "No Soup for You!" and the Elaine Dance.

Right after the show went off the air - Seinfeld was offered $5 million per episode to keep going, but turned it down - Seinfeld went back to touring and recorded the comedy special "Im Telling You For the Last Time." Many of the performances were free of charge. A following tour was chronicled in the 2002 documentary "Comedian." The legend is still working on aspects of his hit show - the group has been recording commentaries for the DVD releases of the show.

Recently, Seinfeld was featured on Saturday Night Live with Louis-Dreyfus, where they poked fun at the "Seinfeld Curse," meaning the other three actors that were on the show with Seinfeld have gone on to not-so successful sitcoms (Louis-Dreyfus did, how ever, wind up being the exception to that rule). He is also working on an animated film, "Bee Movie," for Dreamworks. The movie, also staring Renee Zellweger, will be released in November of 2007.
