Jenni Rivera and Pepe Aguilar are teaming up for two shows this fall, as Rivera continues to tour in support of December 2009's La Gran Seņora. Rivera and Aguilar will perform on Oct. 8 at the Aladdin Resort and Casino in Las Vegas and Oct. 9 at the Honda center in Anaheim.
Rivera's 11th studio album La Gran Seņora is a mix of the Mariachi and Ranchera music that Rivera has come to be known for. The album was released in December 2009, and peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Regional Mexican Albums and No. 2 on the Latin Albums chart. It features the popular songs "Ya Lo Se" and "Por Que No Le Calas."
Jenni Rivera established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the mid-1990s when she released her debut album, Chacalosa (1995). Though Rivera specializes in banda, which is typically a male-dominated field, she hasn't been affected by the specification. In fact, her first ten albums all peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's U.S. Top Latin Albums Chart. Her most recent release, La Gran Seņora, peaked at No. 2 in that category, but made it to No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart.
Ironically, for all her success in the Mexican market, Rivera is actually an American citizen who was raised by immigrant parents in Long Beach, Calif. Because of her families native Mexican roots, she grew up submerged in both the language and the lifestyle not to mention the music.
As a child, Rivera's male relatives played Mexican music, including banda, ranchero and norteno. Though she was always interested in music, Rivera instead chose to major in business administration in college. Later in life, Rivera worked as a real estate agent, though she continued her interest in music through her father's record company.
In 1994, Rivera was signed to Capitol Records and released her first album, Chacalosa, as well as Si Quieres Verme Llorar (1999) and Reina de Reinas (1999) before signing with a top Mexican label, Fonovisa.
Under Fonovisa, Rivera continued producing hits, with albums like Que Me Entierrren con la Banda (2000), Dejate Amar (2001) and Se las Voy a Dar a Otro (2001). Since then, she has released five more studio albums, including her most recent release, La Gram Seņora (2009).
