Jamey Johnson will do eight live concerts this year. The songwriter who last year has co-authored the song, "Give It Away," will play New Orleans, Georgia, Ohio, and Wisconsin before coming to Pennsylvania on February 21st to play the Jim Thorpe Theatre. Needless to say, Johnson's profound contribution to writing songs for others is possibly at an end. He is stepping away from the shadows and performing his own work.
The song "Give It Away" was the winner of the 2007 ACM and CMA Song Of the Year and has been recorded by Trace Adkins, George Straight and Joe Nichols.
Johnson was born in Enterprise, Alabama in 1975. His strongest musical influences were Alan Jackson and Alabama. After he had completed two years of college, Johnson spent eight years in the Marines and attained the rank of Corporal. He moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 2000 where he self released the album "They Call Me Country."
Johnson made some connections in Nashville, and one of them lead him to producer and songwriter Buddy Cannon who helped him land a songwriting contract. "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" was released on Adkin's 2005 album "Songs About Me." He was signed to a recording contract in the same year and recorded "The Dollar," which hit #14 on the Billboard charts. In 2007 Trace Adkins had his first #1 in 10 years with the song "Ladies Love Country Boys," another song co-written with Johnson.
His 2008 recording effort, "That Lonesome Song," produced the hit singles, "In Color" and "High Cost of Living" and has reached gold certified status. Each song is an emotional journey filled with stark insights and heart felt truths. Johnson received three Grammy Award nominations for the album and won the Academy of Country Music's 2009 award for Song of the Year for "In Color." The song also peaked at #9 on the Country Chart in January 2009 and was followed a month later by "The High Cost if Living," which made #34.
In July of 2009, "My Way To You" was released and it hit #56 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. This single will start off the songwriter's next recording effort.
Johnson, who has made no secret of his intense and reclusive personality, is intriguing and revealing all at once. Shades of Kris Kristofferson might be looming around the talented and passionate songwriters present day career. Of his work, the songwriter says, "From now on, I want it to be my decision whether or not I sing something or I don't…"
Johnson's career is just beginning to reveal itself stay tuned for many more hits from this man!

Jamey Johnson tickets are hot, but he didn’t fare so well at the 2010 Grammy Awards.
His song "High Cost of Living" received a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Male Country Vocal Performance.’ His competition included Keith Urban,Trace Adkins, Billy Currington and George Strait, and the award was ultimately won by Keith Urban for "Sweet Thing."
The second nomination was for ‘Best Country Song’ and was a songwriter’s award (Jamey Johnson helped co-write the song "High Cost of Living, which the award was for). That award went to Liz Rose and Taylor Swift for "White Horse."
