James Blunt is a British import that has women everywhere swooning for his acoustic rock sounds and soulful lyrics, matched with an intense voice and dreamy eyes.
Blunt grew up in England and was a Captain in the British Army, serving in Kosovo. After leaving the army, he was signed to EMI Music publishing as a singer/songwriter and shortly thereafter was signed to 4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perrys Custard Records. Perry is known for her work with artists such as Christina Aguilera, P!nk and Courtney Love.
Blunt released his debut album, "Back to Bedlam," and released the singles "High" and "Wisemen" in the U.K., neither of which were very successful. After supporting Elton John on a 2004 tour, Blunt released his breakout hit single, "Youre Beautiful." The song was a massive hit in the U.K., sending the album to No.1 to the album charts.
"Youre Beautiful" was also one of the biggest hits in the U.S. during the summer of 2005. The song was at the top of the Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40, Adult Alternative, and Billboard Hot 100 charts. The single has helped the album to sell over 11 million copies worldwide, earning gold or platinum certifications in 25 countries -it was the best sold album in the world in 2006.
Since gaining massive success, Blunt is splitting his time between Europe and the U.S. In 2005, he toured mostly in the U.K., save a supporting spot for Jason Mraz in North America.
The artist took home a number of awards for his work in 2005 and 2006, including "Best New Act" at the MTV Europe Music Awards," "Best Pop Act" and "Best Male" at the BRIT Awards, "Best Make Video" and "Best Cinematography" at the MTV Video Music Awards and "Best New Artist in the World" and "Biggest Selling British Artist in the World" at the World Music Awards.
Blunt released "All the Lost Souls" in September of 2007. The first single, "1973," was a hit, reaching No. 1 in seven countries throughout the world. His precious success clearly wasnt a fluke - hes here to stay!
