News and Information
Incubus has all of the makings of a hard core alt-metal band, but somehow also found its way into the hearts of easy listening audiences as well, as strange as it seems.

The band was formed in 1991 in the San Fernando Valley in California, when the members were all in tenth grade. Brandon Boyd was on vocals and percussion, Mike Einsiger manned the guitar, Alex Katanich played bass and Jose Passillas was on drums. By the time the group graduated high school, they were known as a musical staple in Southern California. After adding DJ Lyfe to the group, the band took their popularity to a new level and scored a deal with Immortal, part of the Epic record label.

During its early years, the band embraced more of a funk sound, ala the Red Hot Chili Peppers. However, as the guys matured, their sound began to include more rap-metal and thrash, reminiscent of Korn and The Deftones. The band?s first full-length studio album was "S.C.I.E.N.C.E," and they set out on the road to drum up support ? the first of many massive tours for the rockers. They traveled to open for popular bands such as Korn, Primus, Sublime and 311.

The band?s first foray into commercial success came with the album "Make Yourself" in 1999. The first single was "Pardon Me," which put the album on the Top 50 charts. The album steadily gained momentum, fueled by the singles "Stellar" and "Drive." In 2001, the latter was the first effort from the group to reach the Top Ten singles charts. The band banked in on this success, releasing "Morning View" in the fall of 2001, which included the more mellow-sounding hits ?Wish You Were Here," "Nice to Know You" and "Warning." The band was still constantly touring, but in the headlining spot ? fans also found their sound turning softer, but they weren?t considered to be selling out because some songs still had the edge that fans knew and loved.

In 2004, the group released ?A Crow Left of the Murder," which landed at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200. The band finally took a break from touring after that album, spending two years focusing on individual interests. They came back together, though, and released "Light Grenades" in 2006.

Commercial success aside, the band has learned from the best when it comes to touring ?not only did they travel with the greatest artists in their genre and spent time at some of the top festivals in the country, they also traveled on some of the most reputable rock tours of the past decade, including Ozzfest, Korn?s Family Values tour and Lollapalooza.
