Huey Lewis and the News are a bar band Cinderella Story. The guys started out playing rock & roll gigs in watering holes throughout San Francisco, and eventually became one of the top pop-rockers of the ?80s.
Lewis, known for his amazing harmonica skills, and keyboardist Sean Hopper formed the band Clover in the early ?70s with a more country sound than most fans would expect ? Nick Love urged the band to move to England, where they performed in more bars. Eventually, the group gained some fame backing Elvis Costello on his debut album "My Aim is True" (minus Lewis). Time England expired, however, when frontman John McFee left to join the Doobie Brothers, and the guys returned to California.
The rockers continued to entertain bar goers, this time under the name that fans know and love today. The group?s second album "Picture This" included the hit single "Do You Believe in Love," plus the popular singles "Hope You Love Me Like You Say You Do" and "Workin? for a Livin?." "Sports," the third album from the band, started off selling slowly in 1983 but eventually made very good numbers, thanks in part to the music videos on MTV and massive touring. Hits from the album include "Heart and Soul," "I Want a New Drug," "The Heart of Rock & Roll" and "If This is It." While the songs were very popular and the album was certified platinum seven times, the first No.1 single came with ?The Power of Love" in 1985, from the "Back to the Future" soundtrack.
Hits continued with their fourth album, "Fore!" in 1986 ? "Stuck with You," "Hip to be Square," "Jacob?s Ladder," "I Know What I Like" and "Doing it All for My Baby." The band?s next album in 1988, "Small World" was a variation from their normal rock & roll, focused more on American roots. "Perfect World" was a hit, but that was the last commercial success that the group saw - since then, they have been releasing adult contemporary albums sporadically and touring to keep their fans content.
Lewis has been acting since the band has been working less, and it even lead to a hit single ? his duet with Gwyneth Paltrow, "Cruisin," was a massive success from the film "Duets." He also has had success on Broadway, most notably Billy Flynn in the Tony Award-winning musical Chicago.
