Hot Chip answer their fans prayers by coming back to New York in April after sold our secret shows in February: anyone who is anyone was there, listening to the tales of electronic woe and deliciously sterile dance beats. Their fourth studio album released in February, "One Life Stand" promises to be the backdrop for these inspired and high-energy shows.
The One Life Stand tour is gearing up for Northern California on April 16th. They are staging a brilliant competition that fans can enter on their website: winners receive airfare, lodging and passes to hear them play their unique New York City Terminal 5 shows upcoming on April 22 and 23rd. After that they will head to Washington, DC, on April 24th to play the infamous 9:30 Club.
The electropop band's performances are always extraordinary. Their brilliant improvisational beat-driven themes take each piece to an entirely new place. They are known for 'creating an atmosphere of excitement, energy and the unexpected' in their live performances.
So far the Grammy nominated band has released four studio albums: "Coming on Strong", "The Warning", "Made in the Dark" and "One Life Stand". The band that formed in 2000 consists of members Alex Taylor, Joe Goddard, Owen Clarke, Felix Martin and Al Doyle. They did a lot of self-releasing of their work until 2003 when record label Moshi Moshi signed them. They recorded "Coming On Strong" as their first album with the label. Soon they signed a UK &US record deal with DFA and EMI who released their debut album in the US in 2005.
The now signed EMI band, Hot Chip released their second album in 2006, "The Warning." This album brought them to the attention of critics with more exposure on the label. "Over and Over" and "Boy from School" made the UK top forty singles.
With their third album, the band received a lot more attention and made appearances on television. They appeared on "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross", and also on the American talk shows "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "Carson Daly." AllMusic.com selected "One Pure Thought" as the best music video.
They completed a world tour in February of 2009 and began writing "One Life Stand." Some of the new album's songs were played during that tour. The album, according to Taylor, is "a bit calmer this time" with "more mid-tempo and disco influence."
Hot Chip is truly at the top of their game this year and their tour is a must for all fans. The band has played in numerous venues and festivals, including Lollapalooza in 2006, the Brazilian Tim Festival in 2007, and Oxegen and Austin City Limits in 2008. With their popularity on the rise in the US there is no telling what they'll come up with next!
