Hole just kicked off their jam-packed, worldwide summer tour in support of their April 2010 release, Nobody's Daughter. Nobody's Daughter is Hole's first studio album in 12 years.
The 16-city tour kicked off in Montclair, N.J. on June 25 and is scheduled to run until July 16 in Minneapolis. In August, Hole will be performing seven concerts overseas before heading back to the U.S. for the Bumbershoot Festival on Sept. 5 in Seattle.
Some highlights of their North American tour include stops at both the Houston and Dallas House of Blues on July 6 and 7, respectively, the Ottawa Blues Festival on July 9; and a special two night performance at The Vic in Chicago on July 14 and 15.
If you mention Hole, nothing comes to mind more than Courtney Love. This crazy, famous Kurt Cobain widow has been in the group since its founding in 1989. Hole became famous after their 1991 debut album Pretty on the Inside, and of course garnered much attention since Nirvana was already an established band.
The members changed slightly before their second studio album, Live Through This, which ironically debuted just four days after Cobain's death. Live Through This is often called Hole's best selling album, having gone multi-platinum and selling more than 2 million copies within one year of its release.
Hole released one more album Celebrity Skin (1998) and had several years of touring before it was down to just two original members: Love and Eric Erlandson, who had joined the band after answering an ad in the newspaper.
In 2002, Hole officially disbanded. Seven years passed until Love decided to bring Hole back to live with new blood. The current line-up consists of Micko Larkin (guitar), Shawn Dailey (bass) and Stu Fisher (drums).
Despite the disbelief of former band members namely Erlandson, who did not believe Hole could legally be used by Love the band has been signed to Mercury Records and released their fourth album, Nobody's Daughter, in April 2010.
Love's attention has been far from positive during the band's absence. Her personal life has been tabloid fodder given her drug use and rehab stints, legal woes, and generally weird and often belligerent behavior. On the flipside, she has has some success in film, but it's been sporadic at best. Hopefully the release of the new album signals that Love has turned a corner, personally and professionally.
