The Finnish rock band that is the first to have a certified gold album (Dark Light) in the United States will tour through Europe during the beginning of the year and come out to the East coast at the end of March. They will play in Philadelphia, PA on 3/26 and at the Sonar in Baltimore, Maryland on 3/27 before they go off to Canada.

A special limited edition of the band's newest release, "Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice", featuring 2 CD's is available through their website on February 8th.

HIM stands for "His Infernal Majesty" and was formed in 1991 by vocalist Ville Valo, Mikko Linstrom on guitar and Mikko Paananen on bass. The three Finnish kings of darkness have been true to their worldview of disillusionment and hopelessness in all of their albums. Their second album, "Razorblade Romance", marked the beginning of the band's fame when the album took the #1 place on the German music charts, selling over 500,000 of the hit single from the album "Join Me In Death". "Join Me In Death" was also used as the soundtrack for a European sci-fi film.

Their 1996 album, "666 Ways To Love: Prologue" is a rare collectors' item because only 1000 were made. A rare copy of one of these (in mint condition) recently sold on EBay for $600.

In 2001 HIM's fourth member Emerson Burton, (keyboards) joined the band. "Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights" was recorded and quickly made #1 on the German charts. The hit singles from this album, "Pretending", "Joy and Sorrow", "Heartache Every Moment" and "Close to Flame", marked the beginning of the band's commercial success, with this release they were officially a part of the European mainstream in Rock and Roll.

For a band that insists life and love are pain-filled at best, they sure have generated a lot of positive success. They have stayed on track and been very effective businessmen. Their personal lives seem tame; the high drama and self-destructive reports that might be expected from such hard rockers just isn't in this band.

When the American professional skateboarder and TV personality, Bam Margera, began using the band's heartagram logo and promoting them exclusively on his MTV series, "Viva La Bam", HIM became well known in the United States.

Valo states that his original intention for the band was to be a "Black Sabbath" tribute, and he veers away from being framed as an alternative rock sound. Valo calls their sound, "Love Metal" which seems about right for the love they have of all things dark and dubious. This year's tour and new release showcase the band's uber-sophisticated lyrics and musicianship. Don't miss them!
