Hilary Duff is a 'tween success story - she took her spot at Lizzie McGuire on the Disney Channel and turned her name into an enterprise, with singing in the epicenter.
Duff began as an actress - her first role was "Casper Meets Wendy," a direct-to-video exploit. Her big break came after a number of failed roles, when she was cast as the title role in the McGuire series. The show began in 2001, and included a successful film spin-off, The Lizzie McGuire Movie in 2003.
The show brought on a number of film rolls, including 'Agent Cody Banks," "Cheaper by the Dozen," "A Cinderella Story," "Raise Your Voice" and "The Perfect Man" through 2005. In 2006, Duff starred in "Material Girls" with her sister, Haylie, in a more mature role - she will soon be seen in "War, Inc." with John Cusack.
Duff began her music career with "Santa Claus Lane" in 2002, a compilation of duets. In 2003, she was featured heavily in "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" soundtrack. Duffs first studio album, "Metamorphosis," hit No.1 on the U.S. and Canadian charts, and was one of the most popular of 2003. It included the hits "So Yesterday," "Come Clean" and "Little Voice." Her next album, "Hilary Duff," had an edgier sound than the previous release, and only had the single "Fly." "Most Wanted" was the next release, and it was influenced by her then-boyfriend, Good Charlottes Joel madden. The album was her third No.1 debut.
In 2007, Duff released "Dignity," a more mature, dance-based album, less pop and more electronic. The first single, "Play with Fire" was a hit in clubs, but she really found success with "With Love." The third single, "Stranger," was also successful as a club hit and on the Billboard charts. This solidified her as a mature artist - her changing looks gained her publicity, as she lost a significant amount of weight but then put more on for a healthier look.
Duff has been touring lately, packing stadiums to perform her hits. She still attracts the 'tweens that she was a few short years ago, but also has found fans in an older group, building a massive fan base in the process.
