Following the release of their fifth studio album, Godsmack has announced a 10-city U.S. tour that runs through the fall. The tour kicks off in Auburn, Wash., on Aug. 28 for 99.9 KISW's Pain In The Grass with Shinedown, Black Label Society, Puddle of Mudd and more, and runs through Oct. 9 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
Along the way, Godsmack has stops at the Washington County Fairplex in Hillsboro, Ore. on 8/29; the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Fla. on 9/28; the Universal Orlando's CityWalk on 9/29; the Pepsi Stage in Mobile, Ala. on 10/1 for Bayfest; the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md., on 10/3; the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on 10/3; the Susquehanna Center in Camden, N.J., on 10/6; and the Tsongas Center in Boston on 10/8.
Godsmack's latest tour is in support of their May 2010 album The Oracle. The album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, as well as the Billboard Rock Albums chart, Alternative Albums chart and Hard Rock Albums chart.
Following a 23-year stint as the drummer for a band called Strip Mind, Sully Erna decided to create a new band The Scam in 1995 with friends Robbie Merrill (bass), Lee Richards (guitar) and Tommy Stewart (drums). That band later became Godsmack.
A year later, Richards and Stewart left the band, and Tony Rombola and Joe D'Arco joined as the new guitarist and drummer. The same year, the band released their debut album, All Wound Up.
For two years, the band played through the Boston area before their album was noticed by a local DJ and put on the air. After gaining popularity on the radio, Godsmack was signed to Universal/Republic Records in 1998.
Another change up took place, and D'Arco was replaced by his predecessor Tommy Stewart as they remastered their album All Wound Up and released it as Godsmack. The album resulted in their first widespread tour The Godsmack Tour that took them to Ozzfest and Woodstock. They also traveled to Europe as special guests for Black Sabbath.
Following the success of their self-titled album, Godsmack released their second studio album, Awake, in 2000. Hit songs included "Sick of Life" and "Vampires," for which the band received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
In 2003, the band had another member mix-up. Stewart was, once again, out of the band, and Shannon Larkin was cast as the band's drummer. The same year, the band recorded and released their third studio album, Faceless.
Since then, Godsmack released an EP, The Other Side, in 2004 and another studio album, IV, in 2006. The group released their latest album, The Oracle, in May 2010.
