George Lopez News and Information
Posted 6/18/2009
George Lopez is one of the most recognizable and accomplished American comedians of his day, with a successful television series under his belt, as well as massive tours, comedy specials and Grammy Award-nominated albums.

Lopez was raised in San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, Calif., by his grandmother after he was abandoned by his parents. Much of his comedy routine revolves around life with his grandmother. Another major theme for Lopez is his Mexican heritage – he often jokes about Mexican-American life in the United States, based upon his impoverished childhood in a Mexican community. His charity, The George & Ann Lopez-Richie Alarcon CARE Foundation provides resources for community and education in such communities.

Lopez began his rise to comedian fame as many others do – working the comedy circuit. ““Right Now Right Now” was released in 2001, and was a best-seller. In 2004, he released another album, ““Team Leader,” which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. That same year, he released the popular autobiography ““Whey Are You Crying?”

Lopez clearly has very diverse interest and has put his talents to use in a variety of ways throughout his career. He was a cast member on HBOs ““Inside the NFL” for the 2003-2004 season, he hosted the Latin Grammy Awards twice and was a co-host for the Emmy Awards, he starred in ““The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl” in 2005, was in the Wonderful World of Disney Christmas movie ““Naughty or Nice,” and won rave reviews for his performance in ““Real Women Have Curves.”

Lopez took his career to the next step with the Warner Bros. show ““George Lopez.” The sitcom ran from 2002 through 2007, and was the longest-running sitcom with Hispanic actors, next to the legendary ““I Love Lucy.” Actress Sandra Bullock is an executive producer for the show.

In addition to all of his other exploits, Lopez still sells out regularly on tour. He set an attendance record at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles after selling out seven consecutive shows. He is known for his extremely entertaining shows that you wont want to miss!
