Furthur 2010 Summer Tour News
Posted 6/15/2010
Furthur will be playing some of the Grateful Dead's most beloved songs at their first ever summer tour, which spans from June to August. Though the band has yet to release a debut album, former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh have more than 22 live and studio albums worth of music to pull from.
The 18-performance tour kicks off on June 25 at the Highland Bowl Amphitheater in Rochester and wraps up on Aug. 14 at the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in San Francisco.
Furthur is the brainchild of former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh, along with bandmates John Kadlecik of Dark Star Orchestra (guitar), Jeff Chimenti of RatDog on keyboards and Joe Russo id Benevento/Russo Duo on drums.
The idea for a new band was kicked around in 2008 when Weir and Lesh played together for a reunion of The Dead. It had been four years since Weir and Lesh had played together, and they decided to continue playing together as a new band, Furthur.
Furthur's debut performance came in September 2009, and was followed by seven more shows throughout 2009. The band continued touring in February and March 2010 and currently have an extensive summer tour planned for 2010, featuring stops at the Nateva Music & Camping Festival on July 4; the All Good Music Festival from July 8-11; and the Gathering of the Vibes from July 29-Aug. 1.
