Flogging Molly's new live DVD/CD set, "Live At The Greek Theater," is set for release on March 2nd, 2010. The new release immortalizes Flogging Molly's performance at the Greek Theatre on September 12, 2009, with over 90 minutes of music spanning the band's entire catalog, from "Swagger" to "Float." The DVD, shot in HD with over ten cameras, is right on the heels of the band's multi-city tour dates starting in February 2010.
The band, known for creating one of the most important albums of Alternative Rock ("Float") will tour the United States in February and March of this year. Starting in the west, they will weave their way over to the east coast in early March with a show in Baltimore, MD on (2/23). After they hit Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Boston and New York, they will go back out to the mid-west and finish up in Tennessee April 30th.
Flogging Molly started in 1997 when band leader Dublin born Dave King and the six other members Bridget Regan, Dennis Casey, Nathen Maxwell, Bob Schmidt, George Schwindt and Matt Hensley played together every Monday night at a pub called Molly Malone's. Concerned that they were like a fixture in the place because they never missed a Monday, they felt they were 'flogging' the gig to death, thus the name of their band was born.
In this band's case, the flogging worked in their favor. "Alive Behind the Green Door" was the live album that came from those gigs in 1997. The album and the regular gig got them signed when one of the owners of SideOneDummy Records came to see them play a Molly Malone Monday show.
The man responsible for the band is Dave King. Born in Dublin with a track record of fronting hard rock bands and doing vocals, he shunned a record deal when the label he was with opposed his desire to bring in traditional Irish instruments. He went out on his own and met Ted Hutt and Jeff Peters. He also found Bridget Regan, a fiddle player, and together they started to mix hard rock with traditional Irish music.
They have released four studio albums: "Swagger," "Drunken Lullabies," "Within a Mile of Home" and "Float." In March of 2008 Float was reviewed and praised as "one of the most important CD's of the year, if not the decade" by the Alternative Press. The album topped the charts at #4, and from then on they were a solid hit.
Flogging Molly's command over the Celtic Punk genre has been wildly received; fans cannot get enough of them. From the start they were fated to be successful.
