Fleetwood Mac is hitting the road this March to support a new greatest hits compilation, as well as a new album that is in the works.
The band got together in 1967 and has had varied lineups since its inception. The regular players included Mick Fleetwood on drums, bassist John McVie, keyboardist Christine McVie, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and singer Stevie Nicks. Currently, the lineup includes all of these artists, sans McVie.
The group was most successful during the late 1960s and the onslaught of British blues - Peter Green began the group with McVie on drums, and they toured the world and built a reputation as a terrific blues band. Christine joined the group as McVies wife, slightly changing the tone of the band with a female voice. The group continued to churn out albums, including "Hypnotized," one of the bands recognizable singles to date.
In 1973, the group began searching for a new guitarist after some lineup changes, and they came across Buckingham, who would only join if his girlfriend and musical partner, Nicks, could also join. From then on, mainstream success followed by way of hit singles such as "Say You Love Me, "Over My Head," "Rhiannon" and "Landslide," all from their self-titled debut.
"Rumours" was released in 1977, and was equally successful - "Go Your Own Way," "Dreams," "Dont Stop," "you Make Loving Fun," "Gold Dust Woman," and "The Chain" were all extremely popular - by 2003, the album sold 19 million copies in the U.S. alone and 30 million copies worldwide. It remains one of the biggest selling albums of all time.
A number of albums followed with success, as well as hiatus for band members to explore solo careers, and came back together in 1987 with a few more hits up their sleeve "Little Lies," "Everywhere," and "Big Love." The group slowed down between 1987 and 1997 to release some best-of compilations, and by 1997, the famous quintet was back together again for a wildly popular live album, "The Dance."
The group, minus McVie, will kick off their travels in March to support the newest best-of collection, "Unleashed," and talk of a new studio album continues - they are currently working in the studio.
