Eric Benet News and Information
Posted 6/18/2009
Eric Benet, the American R&B and soul singer who made it big in 1999 with the song "Spend My Life with You" with Tamia, is currently on tour from now to the end of October throughout the U.S.

His latest album—Love & Life—was released in September 2008 and received two 2009 Grammy Award nominations for Best R&B album and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

Eric Benet was born Eric Benet Jordan in 1966, and uses only his mother's maiden name—Benet—for his career. He was raised in Milwaukee, Wis., as the youngest of five siblings. Tragedy has marred Benet's past. First, his father who loved rap music and urged Eric to become interested in music, passed away from cancer, and then his girlfriend, Tami Marie Stauff died from injuries from an automobile accident.

Before his losses, however, he had already formed a band, known as Benet, with his sister and cousin. The trio released a self-titled album, but it only sold 100,000 copies.

Benet released his solo debut album, True to Myself, in 1996 after signing with Warner Bros. Records in 1994. He had two successful songs, namely "Spiritual Thang" and "Let's Stay Together," but it wasn't until his next album, A Day in the Life, in 1999 that he gained more attention for his song "Spend My Life With You" featuring Tamia. The song rose to No. 1 on American R&B charts and nominated for a Grammy Award in 2000 for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or group.

He has released two more studio albums since then—Hurricane and Love & Life—and has also made guest appearances on "Kaya" and "For Your Love," as well as a role with Mariah Carey in "Glitter."
