The Eagles are hitting the road this spring, with extended stays in Georgia, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts, and severalsome stops in between. The rock legends are traveling behind "Long Road Out of Eden," released in 2007 - their first new material since 1979.
The Eagles were one of the most successful acts of the 1970s, and two of their albums are ranked among the ten best-selling albums of all time, one of them holding the top spot. When heavy rock was permeating the airwaves, The Eagles made it clear that soft melodies could still get the job done.
The group formed in 1971 when many of the band members were session musicians for Linda Ronstadt. Future frontman Don Henley was recruited as a drummer for Ronstadt, and after the album they formed their own group. The bands self-titled debut included a lot of natural country rock, and found hits with "Take it Easy," "Witchy Woman" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling." The group was labeled the leaders of Southern California Country Rock and the album was ranked No.374 on Rolling Stone Magazines "500 Greatest Albums of All Time."
"Desperado" followed, and had a more western sound. Some of the bands most popular singles, the title track and "Tequila Sunrise" were included in the collection. Henley and Glenn Frey became the two main writers and leaders for the band at that time, a tradition that continued.
The band released two more albums that included the hits "Lyin Eyes," "One of These Nights," "Already Gone" and "Best of My Love." Their trademark song was found on an album of the same name, "Hotel California." Released in 1977, the album also included "Life in the Fast Lane" and "Victim of Love."
"The Long Run" was released in 1979, and included their last massive hit, "Heartache Tonight." Unfortunately, the group parted ways after tensions boiled - it has been said that they were known to threaten each other on stage between songs.
The band got back together for "Hell Freezes Over" in 1994. The album was a combination of live tracks and new ones. The singles "Get Over It" and "Love Will Keep Us Alive" were both hits. Four years later the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2003 they released "The Very Best of the Eagles."
"Long Road Out of Eden" was released in August of 2007, and it kicked pop princess Britney Spears out of Billboards top spot.
