Dispatch is back this summer with a month-long reunion tour. With a portion of all ticket sales going to benefit local education, this do-good tour kicks off with a stint at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., from June 3-5 and wraps up with another 3-day gig at the TD Garden in Boston from June 24-26.
Along the way, Dispatch is also scheduled to play at Chicago's UIC Pavilion on June 7, Chicago's Millennium Park on June 8, the Greek Theatre in Berkeley on June 11, the L.A. Greek Theatre on June 12, Terminal 5 in New York on June 17, the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. on June 17.
The band members' claim the tour will feature new music as well as fan favorites from their earlier albums.
Founded in the early 1990s, Dispatch consists of Brad Corrigan, Pete Francis Heimbold and Chad Urmston. Their music can't be placed into a clear-cut category, but is spread between reggae, funk and acoustic folk-rock. Their start and end dates are also a little fuzzy, with the beginning sometime while the trio were in school at Middlebury College in Vermont.
The trip began when Hermit Thrush, the Woodriver Bandits and The Sholley Shenanigans merged into one band: One Fell Swoop. However, their name quickly changed to Dispatch after a dispute with another band who previously claimed the name.
From there, the trio practiced religiously and, after graduating, moved to Boston where they began their live shows. One thing that categorizes the band as highly unique is the ability of all three members to play nearly any instrument on stage. Though they never received backing from a label, their albums became popular thanks to programs like Napster and Limewire.
Their albums include 1996's Silent Steeples, 1998's Bang Band, 1999's Four-Day Trials and 2000's Who Are We Living For?
With each new album came an extensive tour, though the tensions within the band began to increase and they declared an indefinite hiatus in 2002.
Following the break-up in 2002, the band has performed a handful of reunion concerts in 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2011.
