This April, Deftones is kicking off their U.S. tour in continued support of their latest album, Diamond Eyes. The tour runs between April 14 at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle and June 13 at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco.

Along the way, Deftones has gigs at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago on April 30, the Electric Factory in Philadelphia on May 10, the Sonar in Baltimore on May 16, the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on June 10 and more.

The band's sixth studio album, Diamond Eyes, debuted in May 2010. It features songs like "You've Seen the Butcher," "Rocket Skates" and "Sextape."

Founded in 1989, Deftones is comprised of Chino Moreno (vocals, guitar), Stephen Carpenter (guitar), Chi Cheng (bass), Frank Delgado (keyboard) and Abe Cunningham (drums). Rumor has it that when Carpenter was 15, he was hit by a car and confined to a wheelchair. During his recovery, he learned how to play the guitar and later used the money that he was awarded from the driver to buy equipment for the band.

Three of the band members Carpenter, Moreno and Cunningham went to the same school, and began playing together in 1989. They became more serious about getting a real band together and brought o Cheng as the bassist. For the next two years, the band played shows around their home in Sacramento. After a show in L.A., the band was offered a contract with Maverick Records.

In 1995, the band released their first studio album, Adrenaline, which featured the popular songs "7 Words" and "Bored." Between near-constant touring and online promotion, the band garnered a dedicated fanbase.

Following their debut album, the group released Around the Fur (1997), White Pony (2000) and Deftones (2003) with longtime producer Terry Date. For their fourth studio album, the band decided to record with Bob Ezrin (who previously worked with Alice Cooper and Pink Floyd) because their wanted to "change things up."

Though the album sold over 600,000 copies worldwide and garnered the band a two-year tour, it also caused much tension between the members. From Fall 2007-2008, the band began working on their next album, Eros, again with producer Terry Date. On Nov. 4, 2008, bassist Cheng was seriously injured in a car accident and the album was postponed. Cheng remained in a semi-conscious state since then and still remains under care.

The remaining Deftones members didn't feel right releasing Eros without Cheng, and decided to indefinitely dock it. In January 2009, a friend of the band Sergio Vega (formerly of Quicksand) agreed to play bass until Cheng could return. Together, they recorded their sixth studio album, Diamond Eyes.

Throughout 2010, Deftones teamed up with Alice in Chains and Mastadon for the Blackdiamondskye tour, which featured a mash-up of Alice in Chain's Black Gives Way to Blue album, Deftones Diamond Eyes album and Mastadon's Crack the Skye album.
