David Sedaris

News and Information
David Sedaris is a comedian and radio contributor, not scared to poke fun at himself and his vices.

Sedaris was raised in Raleigh, NC, and attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He claims that while growing up, he suffered from a lisp when pronouncing the letter "s," and he also had juvenile Tourettes syndrome and obsessive compulsive disorder.

After working a number of odd jobs, he received acclaim for "The SantaLand Diaries," a radio essay that described his experience as a Macys elf during Christmas season in New York City. The effort was aired in 1992 on National Public Radios "Morning Edition," and he soon after released the books "Barrel Fever" in 1994, "Naked" in 1996 and "Me Talk Pretty One Day" in 2000. The popularity of the latter prompted Columbia Records to option his book, he declined because he didnt want his family portrayed on screen. His books are all available in audio, and are read by the author and his sister, famous comedian Amy.

Sedaris often contributes to the Chicago Public Radio show "This American Life," plus "Esquire" and "The New Yorker." The comedian has taken quite an interest in animal fables as of late - he said in 2006 that his next book would consist of animal fables, and he read a number of the short stories on a recent tour, and he published some preliminary works in "The New Yorker."

Sedaris is known for his self-deprecating humor. He talks frequently about his family life, his jobs, education, Greek heritage, and life in France with his partner, Hugh. Most notably, Sadaris is an avid anti-anti-smoker, claiming that his smoking habit helped him to overcome his childhood problems.
