Dashboard Confessional was developed in 199 as singer Chris Carrabbas side project, which clearly became his main focus after he burst onto the music scene with the hit single "Screaming Infidelities," which brought a third round of the "emo" genre to the U.S.
Carrabba began with Further Seems Forever, a Florida-based rock band. Dashboard began as a solo exploit, but Carrabba eventually collected some pals to tour with him, including John Lefler on guitar, Scott Schoenbeck on bass and Mike Marsh on drums.
The bands debut album was "The Swiss Army Romance" - in 2001, they released the Gold-certified "The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most," which really put them on a map with hit singles "Screaming Infidelities" and "Saints and Sailors."
Dashboards next album was "MTV Unplugged" in 2002- the bare nature of the collection really highlighted the bands minimalist sound, and the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA. Next up for the band was "A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar," which hit No. 2 on Billboards Top 200 Albums and was certified Gold - hits from the collection included "Hands Down" and "Rapid Hope Loss."
"Dusk and Summer" was released in 2006, and hit the same spot on the Billboard charts as its predecessor. Notable tracks from the album include "Dont Wait," "Stolen" and "Rooftops and Invitations." The collective is planning to release "The Shade of Poison Trees" this fall, and have already released the single "Thick as Thieves."
As a touring unit, the band is known for the intimate atmosphere of their shows, including lots of crowd participation - the MTV Unplugged album features a lot of crowd participation.
While Dashboard has a massive following of loyal fans, they are more important for ushering the third wave of the emo genre in the past decade. While emo was once known for harder sounds, Carrabba and Co. brought a softer sound to what was popularly thought of as emo - a bare-bones sound with emotional lyrics, backed by mostly acoustic instrumentals.
