Darius Rucker (Hootie & The Blowfish) will be joined by contemporary country artist Rascal Flatts on several dates beginning on 1/22/10 in University Park, PA.He is scheduled to play the "New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival" in April.
After a brief stop in Ontario, he'll tour through the mid-west and western states before going down south, and he is also appearing at "Country USA" In Oshkosh, WI, before ending up at the "Country Stampede" in June.
Darius Rucker is the first African American to reach the Top 20 in the country charts since Charley Pride and his song "Shouldn't It Be Easier Than This" in 1988. His two solo albums, "Back to Then" in 2002 and more recently, "Learn to Live" in 2008 put him in the spotlight. "Back To Then" (featuring Jill Scott and Snoop Dogg), achieved number one status on the "Hot Seekers" chart and number 43 in the U.S. R&B chart.
Can we call him a country singer? So far his appeal to crossover country music fans has not wavered. In 2008, when Rucker was told that his hit single, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It' achieved number one on the country charts, he told the press, "I felt like such a dork, …I'm Hootie & the Blowfish, man. A lot of people don't get second chances."
Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Rucker attended the University of South Carolina where he shared a dorm with the three future members of what became Hootie & the Blowfish. ("Hold my Hand", "Only Want to Be With You" were two of their hit singles.) When the band announced its decision to take a break, Rucker began recording on his own.
"Learn To Live" has been many years in the making. The album itself has reached platinum status by the Recording Industry Association of America. Rucker played the infamous "Grand Ole Opry" in 2008 after "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" reached the Top 20 on the Country Charts.
Rucker's songs are inspired by his own real life dramas. The death of his Mother inspired two Hootie songs, ("I'm Going Home" and "Not Even the Trees"). His first-born daughter, Carolyn, with former girlfriend was the subject of "Let Her Cry". He is also reported to be close friends with super star golf champion, Tiger Woods, whom he met in a bar when Tiger was 18.
Rucker's tour promises to be a defining pillar of his career. His passion and drive for the country music genre, combined with his talent for alternative rock bring a lot to the table for fans from all walks of life. Don't miss this chance to see him make history!
