Dane Cook is certainly a rising star on the comedy circuit in America, with a number of comedy specials, albums and films under his belt, including the highest-selling comedy album in almost three decades. Cook grew up in the suburbs of Boston, and first appeared at a "Catch a Rising Star" show in Harvard Square. Eventually he made it to a higher-level comedy showcase, Comedy Centrals "Premium Blend." The following year, he was featured on the Dennis Rodman film "Simon Sez," and was featured in the music video for "All Star" by Smash Mouth.
Two years later, Cook created his website, www.danecook.com, with all of his savings. He has always been ahead of the curve with technology, as he was also one of the first people to use the social networking website MySpace to drum up support. He found success on Comedy Centrals "Crank Yankers" with several of his prank phone calls being featured on the show early in his career as well.
In 2003, Cook released his debut comedy album, "Harmful if Swallowed." The collection included a DVD with his Comedy Central special. That year, he also wrote, directed and starred in the comedy "8 Guys." In 2005, he offered up "Retaliation," a three disc/DVD set. The collection hit the No. 4 spot on the Billboard charts and was the most successful comedy album release since Steve Martins "A Wild and Crazy Guy" in 1978.
In 2006, Cook filmed his first HBO Special, "Vicious Circle," in addition to a documentary and scripted series for the network. Just as Cook was beginning to reach the pinnacle of success for a stand up comedian, his film career began to blossom. He starred with Jessica Simpson and Dax Shepard in "Employee of the Month," which was released in September. By the end of the year, he also entered the musical world, released his first single "Ill Never Be You."
Cook is currently putting a lot of effort into his film career - this past summer he was featured in the thriller "Mr. Brooks," for which he scored positive reviews for his serious performance. In the comedic realm, he co-starred with Jessica Alba in Good Luck Chuck and Steve Carell in "Dan in Real Life." In November of 2007, Cook plans to release "Rough Around the Edges," a new album.
As many great comedians have before him, Cook employs a lot of observational comedy in his routines. He is known for talking about love, his childhood, and his plans for the future. His most successful tour to date was "Tourgasm" - a 30-day 20-show tour featuring Cook, Robert Kelly, Gary Gulman and Jay Davis. The show was featured on HBO and a documentary was released.
