Cyndi Lauper is gearing up for a full summer or touring in support of her upcoming album, "Memphis Blues," due out in June.
Her tour kicks off on June 25 in Morristown, N.J., and runs until Sept. 3 in Vancouver, B.C. During the two month tour, Lauper will dominate the House of Blues in Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, New Orleans, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas and San Diego.
"Memphis Blues" features Lauper covering songs by blues legends B.B. King, Allen Touissant and more.
If you know anything about the early MTV era, then you know about Cyndi Lauper. Not only did she sell 5 million+ albums from her first album, "She's So Unusual," but she also snagged several Top Ten spots with songs from the record like "Time After Time" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."
She wasn't always a hit, though. From 1980-81, Lauper was the lead singer for the band "Blue Angel," which recorded one album and were dropped from their record label. While record labels weren't interested in the band as a whole, Cyndi Lauper grabbed tons of attention for her vocal range and unique sound.
After signing on with Portrait Records, Lauper released "She's So Unusual" (1983) and "True Colors" (1986). From 1987 to 1998 she was contracted with Epic Records for "A Night to Remember" (1989); "Hat Full of Stars" (1993); "Sisters of Avalon" (1996); and "Merry Christmas...Have A Nice Life" (1998).
From 2001 to present, Lauper also released "Shine;" "At Last;" "The Body Acoustic;" "Bring Ya to the Brink;" and "Memphis Blues."
Though her latest album is a far reach from the teenage icon she was 20 years ago, Lauper says she's always relied on rhythm and blues in her songs.
"Everything I ever sang, from jazz to rock to pop to dance, is based on rhythm and blues," she told People Magazine.
