Counting Crows Background Information
Counting Crows formed in San Francisco in 1991 when singer Adam Duritz and guitarist Dave Bryson joined forces. They brought together a lineup and began recording demos. Many fan favorites, such as "Rain King," "Einstein on the Beach," "Mr. Jones" and "Round Here" are among the first recordings. The groups debut album "August and Everything After" left quite a mark on the alt rock industry. "Mr. Jones" is known as one of the most popular songs of the early 1990s, and the tracks "Round Here" and "Rain King" were also tremendously popular. The group, who always put a major emphasis on touring, traveled with the likes of Cracker, the Cranberries, Bob Dylan and Los Lobos the next two years to support the album, and in that time the album sold 7 million copies. The success took a toll on the group - Duritz suffered a nervous breakdown, which was reflected in their sophomore effort, "Recovering the Satellites." The album was darker than the first and dealt with "picking up pieces of a family, a social life and a psyche shattered by fame," according to Duritz. The following album was "This Desert Life," and they traveled with rockers Live to support the collection. "Hard Candy" came next, which included the hit "Big Yellow Taxi" with Vanessa Carlton. They toured behind the album with John Mayer, Maroon 5 and Graham Colton Band. The band also released two live albums, "Across a Wire: Live in New York City" and "New Amsterdam: Live at Heineken Music Hall." In addition, they put out "Films About Ghosts," a best-of collection with some new tracks and covers, including two Grateful Dead songs. The bands music has been featured in a number of films such as "Clueless," "Rounders," "Cruel Intentions" and "Shrek 2" ("Accidentally in Love," for which they were nominated for an Academy Award. They also have been heard on the television shows "Boston Public," "Brothers & Sisters," "Scrubs" and "Party of Five." Their most recent effort is "Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings," which was recorded in the end of 2007 and released in April 2008. A live DVD and a deluxe edition of "August and Everything After" followed shortly thereafter. GreatSeats.com uses secure servers to process your order for the Counting Crows tour.
