Clutch has been together since the early 1990s, and over the years has become known for cohesive albums that often differ in genre from release to release, but always mesh as a collection.

The group formed in 1991and the lineup has remained the same ever since - Neil Fallon sings, and plays the guitar and harmonica, Tim Sult has guitar duties, Dan Maines performs on bass guitar, Jean-Paul Gaster is on drums.

The outfit became local fan favorites after constant touring, and they eventually released "Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes and Undeniable Truths" in 1993, followed by a self-titled album in 1995. In the bands beginnings, songs had an angrier, serious tone with a hardcore punk sound. Over the years, the sound of the band has certainly shifted, moving from hardcore punk to hard rock, and now with a strong blues influence

The group has release six more albums since then, including "Elephant Riders" in 1998 from Columbia Records, and while they didnt rise to the likes of Korn and Deftones, they certainly widened their fan base and continued to thrive. In 2001, they released "Pure Rock Fury" off of the Atlantic label, and they found success with "Careful with that Mic."

Three years later, "Blast Tyrant" was released, and was more rock-oriented than its punk counterparts. A hit from the album included "The Mob Goes Wild." "Hive/Exodus" was released in 2005, and organist Mick Schauer was added to the lineup.

In addition to shifting musical tastes, the band has also changed its lyrical tone in recent years. Many critics have found that the lyrical styling as of late has become much more intelligent, moving towards more wordplay and subtle humor.

The band most recently released "From Beale Street to Oblivion," and it received very positive feedback from the music industry. "Metal Hammer" magazine called the album a "future classic, the best album the group ha ever produced and easily a front-runner for album of the year."

While the band hasnt had immense commercial success, they have built up a massive cult following over the years, propelled by their ambition touring schedule - they are known to frequently play more than 100 shows per year.
