Celine Dion Background Information
Celine Dion is certainly a Cinderella Story, and she puts the passion from her life into all of her music. Born into a working-class family with 14 children, Dion became a local celebrity in Quebec, and eventually became a global success with the help of her manager and future-husband, Rene Angelil. While she had fans across the globe, she wanted to conquer America, but it took some time. The singer, known for her boisterous hand motions and large musical range, was known for something else before entering into Americas pop race: she was called "Canine Dion," in reference to her teeth. She underwent a six-month transformation before entering the American charts. Once she got to the U.S., though, everything was much easier. Dions 1990 debut album, "Unison" had several hits and the theme song to Disneys "Beauty and the Beast" threw her popularity over the edge. Her second album, "Celine Dion," included the single, plus "If You Asked Me To," "Nothing But a Broken Heart" and "Love Can Move Mountains." She released six albums in the following six years, including the massive hit "Falling Into You," which won the Album of the Year and Best Pop Album Grammy Award. Somehow, though, it got better. The pop icon released the single "My Heart Will Go On" for the Titanic Soundtrack on her "Lets Talk About Love" album. With a performance of VH1s Divas Live Special with Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey and Shania Twain, Dion was at the top of her game. However, she decided to take a break from the limelight in 1999 after her husband was diagnosed with throat cancer. The singer planned to spend time at home eventually have a child, with the help of fertility treatments. While three years seemed to be an eternity to her fans, Dion returned triumphantly in 2002 with a new album, "A New Day Has Come" and a new contract to appear at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for 700 performances in a custom-built theatre. She has clearly made it to the pinnacle of pop stardom, and now she is enjoying her view from the Palace, selling out almost every night since its 2003 opening.
